Meredith McKinnon

Associate

Meredith McKinnon is an associate in the firm’s business litigation practice group and serves as the head of Silverman Thompson’s law clerk program. She represents businesses, municipalities, and individuals in complex litigation, appeals, and regulatory matters across a broad range of industries. Her practice includes business litigation, appellate and civil appeals, general civil litigation, construction litigation, municipal law, labor and employment, and state and local government matters.

Known for her thorough legal analysis, strategic thinking, and persuasive advocacy, Ms. McKinnon has achieved favorable outcomes for clients at both trial and appellate levels. Recently, she played a leading role in securing a significant appellate victory involving a municipal zoning dispute with substantial personal and economic consequences for her client. Ms. McKinnon also regularly represents municipalities in a wide range of legal matters. She works closely with the city attorney for a Maryland municipality, providing general counsel on municipal operations, drafting local legislation and ordinances, advising on governance issues, and serving as counsel to the municipality’s Planning and Zoning Commission. Her municipal practice includes advising public officials on land use, zoning, and regulatory matters while helping local governments navigate complex legal and policy issues.

In her litigation practice, Ms. McKinnon has successfully resolved numerous high-stakes disputes through strategic advocacy and negotiation. She represented a title company that became entangled in a sophisticated, multi-party fraud scheme involving numerous domestic and international participants, resulting in more than a dozen lawsuits against the company. Through coordinated litigation strategy and negotiated resolutions, she helped secure favorable settlements in every case without any findings of liability against her client. Ms. McKinnon also recently favorably resolved a long-running federal lawsuit in which her client faced a $10 million claim arising from an incident regarding several intentional torts that had been in litigation since 2018. Through strategic negotiation, she helped bring the years-long dispute to a successful conclusion on favorable terms for her client.

Earlier in her career with the firm, Ms. McKinnon negotiated a six-figure settlement on behalf of an electronic discovery vendor in a dispute against two of the nation’s largest law firms, further demonstrating her ability to obtain meaningful results in complex commercial matters.

In addition to her client work, Ms. McKinnon leads Silverman Thompson’s Law Clerk Program. As the program’s primary supervisor, she oversees the firm’s law clerks, assigning substantive legal work based on each clerk’s interests and experience while providing mentorship and professional development. She works closely with attorneys throughout the firm to ensure clerks receive meaningful, hands-on experience and organizes educational and networking opportunities that support the next generation of legal professionals.

Before joining Silverman Thompson as an associate in 2022, Ms. McKinnon served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Robert J. Thompson of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. She previously worked as a law clerk at Silverman Thompson and interned for the Honorable Alexander Wright, Jr., of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Ms. McKinnon graduated magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where she was inducted into the Royal Graham Shannonhouse III Honor Society and served as Assistant Managing Editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review.
